Boldness is a catalyst for change

March 8th is International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day is a global day where women (and men) gather across the world to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is also a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

This day has been marked annually since the early 1900s. It continues today as a powerful global platform, unifying immovable attitudes that align with International Women’s Day values including, justice, dignity, hope, equality, collaboration, tenacity, appreciation, respect, empathy and forgiveness.

People celebrate this day in many different ways and for a variety of reasons. How will you choose to celebrate? If you haven’t decided yet, let us offer you some suggestions.

The 2017 theme is Be Bold For Change. It’s a call to help forge a more gender inclusive world. An opportunity to challenge conscious and unconscious bias. So perhaps, take the time to share feelings or ideas with friends or family in person or online, search for activities in your community or take 10 minutes to critically think about the type of action you can take to help induce change. Challenge the normalised biases you encounter today, choose to take a stand.

When we stand together, united in purpose, we possess strength we cannot possess alone. Let us stand together. Stand as women and men who hope for a better world. Stand against injustice, and stand for change. Change that is possible when we work together.

Be a leader in your own spheres of influence. Let us recognise, honour and celebrate the important and impressive achievements of women globally.

Join hearts and hands with Broxtowe Women’s Project as we celebrate women. BWP will be marking the occasion by holding a consultation event and celebratory lunch with women current involved with Broxtowe Women’s Project to honour successes and share plans for the future.
