Using BWP Services in 2001
I am an ex-service user of Broxtowe Women’s Project back from 2001-2002 when the service hadn’t been running for very long.
I was referred by the local council when I became homeless for the 2nd time after fleeing domestic abuse with my young son.
I have to say that having the help from Broxtowe women’s project was life changing for me as it meant so much to have the support and encouragement that was so desperately needed at that point in my life.
At a time when a women feels crushed, worthless, weak and vulnerable. I feel these services for me were exceptional in helping me to feel safe!
I have seen BWP grow from strength to strength as a service provider over the years, just as much as the women that have grown from strength to strength with their support.
I am pleased to say with much support from the service and my very own willpower I have flourished as a strong independent woman since and I feel I have a lot of first hand knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse and it’s effects. I write poetry around these subjects and I am currently working on my first of many books.
I hold strong believes that we have to work so hard towards breaking these cycles of destruction.
I hope to use all my own experiences to empower and inspire not just women, but men and children, grandparents and all. To make a difference wherever I can.
I would like to add from my own experiences, that ongoing counselling/therapy (which is something I payed for myself) is imperative to rebuilding a life after domestic abuse. Even after 2 decades I still at times have flashbacks and triggers that unsettle me. Sometimes the after affects are just as damaging as the experience itself.
I would really like to see this as something that can be offered as a free long term service in the future, not just to women but the children who sadly go through this too! The more healing the brighter the future for all.
I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to Broxtowe Women’s Project for the help they gave me and for the amazing work they have done and continue to do to help women like myself that find themselves in these sad situations.
Without your service, I honestly don’t know where my life would be today!
Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP) is proud to announce that is it the first Domestic Abuse charity in the UK to receive White Ribbon Accreditation.
