Poet helps women begin their writing journeys
Women supported by BWP developed their poetry writing skills with the help of local poet Penny Hughes on 9 March 2023.
Nine women braved the snowy storms to attend the oversubscribed Writing into Wellness workshop at Beeston Library.
BWP’s Development Officer, Alice, said: “Over the years we’ve seen many survivors of Domestic Abuse benefit from expressing themselves through writing. When the opportunity to work with local poet Penny came up we jumped at the chance, knowing our women would love to explore new ways to write in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
“Penny was brilliant, she was amazing with the group. We had some really lovely feedback on the day, one woman said: ‘I have been wanting to start writing for a long time now and this has given me the encouragement to start my creative writing journey!”
Following the positive feedback from the group, Penny is hopefully going to run an online poetry course for our women starting at the end of April. If you would like more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
