Running with extra safety
A few weeks ago, following police reports of attacks on lone women joggers in Derbyshire we decided to contact running clubs in Broxtowe to offer them portable alarms for their female members.
We keep a stock of personal attack alarms to give to women at risk of suffering domestic violence.
Two local clubs took us up on the offer, with 40 alarms going to Beeston AC and 15 to Kimberley and District Striders.
We posted news of what we were doing on our facebook and twitter accounts and were very pleased to be able to help when we received an email that asked: “just wondered if you are still handing out personal alarms?”
It came from a resident of Beeston who told us: “Both myself and a friend have just returned to running and are regular attendants at Beeston park run. However, we try to do a run in between but cannot always run together.
“We both live alone and so are always aware of our own safety not only when running, so personal alarms would be great help to us both.”
The woman concerned signed off by saying she was “Looking forward to running with extra safety.”
We were delighted to be able to help and have sent alarms to the two women concerned.
